Helping Seniors Stay Independent with Community Support
Happy at Home is a service designed to help seniors remain in their homes by connecting them with the resources and support they need. Developed to address needs identified within our community, it offers navigation assistance to help seniors find the right programs, as well as volunteer-powered home maintenance, provided free of charge.
Happy at Home is available to seniors residing within the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) who need guidance in accessing resources or help with small tasks in their homes. It is also open to friends, family members, and caregivers seeking support in connecting seniors to the right services.
Happy at Home is a partnership between Spencer House Seniors Centre and Chebucto Links.
Phone Service Navigation
Service navigation helps seniors and their families access the right supports by providing information, guidance, and referrals to programs and services via telephone. This may include health and wellness resources, financial assistance, transportation, social programs, and more.
Our navigator takes the time to chat, understand individual needs, and work through challenges together. If a direct service isn’t available, we’ll search for creative solutions to help meet the need in other ways.
To access support, seniors or those supporting seniors can contact the navigator by phone or email to discuss their needs and explore available options.
Light Home Maintenance
Home maintenance services help seniors keep their homes safe and comfortable. This may include assistance with minor installations, small repairs, and other light manual tasks inside the home. Ensuring a well-maintained home supports independence and improves overall quality of life.
Seniors in the community can request volunteer-run home maintenance support by contacting the Happy at Home team by phone or email. Availability depends on volunteer capacity, and requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis to determine how best to assist.
